Cantina enotria – Vini DOC di Calabria

is the name of a mythical land described by Virgil in the Aeneid.
A place where vineyards and wine flowed in abundance, the fruit of the labour of its people: the Oenotri.

Enotria is the name of our winery, founded in 1974 in honour of its history, its land and its fruit, created with the aim of cultivating communal vineyards, promoting its grapes, and producing popular and affordable wine.

The dream began in Cirò Marina, home to the winery, where the vineyards slope generously from the hills to the shores of the Ionian Sea.

A variety of non-native but, above all, native grapes, in the finest Oenotrian tradition: Greco bianco, Pecorello, Magliocco and Gaglioppo, which thrive in clayey, medium-textured soil, fertile and rich with grapes for millennia, as evidenced by archaeological findings in the area. Tradition and innovation are not contradictions. Winemaking technology at the service of popular wisdom is the only viable path for a popular, affordable wine in two words: human and Calabrian.

The Cirò Marina DOC is one of the oldest Designations of Origin in Italy (1969), established by local producers to guarantee the provenance of the wines from this unique, ancient, and noble land. The DOC category includes the Cirò Bianco and Rosato appellations,

while the Rosso receives particular attention. In fact, it can also carry the appellations “Classico”, “Superiore” and “Riserva”.
The Rosso DOC must contain a minimum of 80% Gaglioppo, while the Cirò Bianco DOC must be produced with at least 80% Greco Bianco grapes.
